Since January 17, world cinema lovers have ditched torrents for an online theatre. My French Film Festival (.com), the first online French film fest, has been treating cine lovers from across the world to 10 feature films and 10 short films in over 13 languages.
An initiative of UniFrance films, responsible for promoting French cinema abroad under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, in France, the festival, now in its fourth year, screens a wealth of new films including feature films, animation films and shorts released in France in 2013, and will be available both on the website and on 20 partner platforms, including iTunes in 80 countries, with screenings taking place in more than 1,000 venues around the world.

As a culmination, Alliance Française will host screenings of selected films from the festival. The films may be an attempt to expose new French cinema to the world, but the organisers haven’t lost their sense of fun in the process.
As in other years, the flyer for this edition too features the recurring leitmotif of food — in the form of a film reel lining rolled out of a macaron. The tagline reads, “Food for thought to take away,” while last year’s had a sandwich. “I think it is because in France, food is almost a religion, followed by cinema,” says Prutha Narke, Cultural Coordinator at Alliance Française de Bangalore.
Four prizes will be awarded at the end — a Jury Prize, headed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, with filmmakers from various countries that include Lynne Ramsay (United Kingdom), Marco Bellocchio (Italy), Frédéric Fonteyne (Belgium) and Anurag Kashyap (India), The International Press Prize, with a jury of 11 foreign journalists, the Public Prize, as per online votes by all viewers and The Social Networks Prize, selected by 100 cinema lovers who are influential on Facebook and Twitter.
My French Film Festival, Selected screenings, 6.30 pm, Upto Feb 16, Alliance Francaise, Vasanthnagar
